Dawson was born May 2nd 2025 at 2:50am, coming into the world rather "suddenly", as Athena showed VERY little signs of a stage 1 labor but thankfully, we know what to look for and knew it was time. He was born a very interesting black silverish colour to his coat, so we knew he HAD to have inherited something from Athena's many options (see her page for information). It wasn't until we decided to go ahead and colour test him for his registration that we found that the "culprit" is roan. Genetically, he is a homozygous black, blue roan tobiano (EERNrnTt). Roan and tobiano live on the same chromosome location, so you can unfortunately never have either one of those homozygous, and still have the "other". For those wondering, as a stallion, when it comes to colour, he would ALWAYS produce a black based horse, and there is a 50% chance he passes on either roan or tobiano, so he himself, could only sire black tobiano offspring OR blue roan solid offspring, depending on the mare. With both his parents being homozygous for extension (black), Dawson was guaranteed to receive a copy of extension from both parents, making him homozygous as well by parentage, so there was no need to test for that one specifically. His sire is homozygous tobiano, so in similar fashion, he was 100% guaranteed to receive 1 copy of tobiano, so we did not test for that either, we know his "status" is Tt for heterozygous tobiano. We were also able to rule out the agouti (bay Aa) from his dam, leaving the only ones to rule out, or test for being the cream gene, grey, and roan from his dam. To put it in perspective, with all the genes Athena carries (his dam), Dawson only had a 6.25% chance of being any specific genetic make up for the many colour options that were possible, and divide that in half that any specific genetic combination would be on a colt, or had Athena produced a filly! Of course, for us, colour is the icing on the cake, and Dawson has no shortage of "the cake" either so to speak!

Dawson has a fantastic foundation AQHA pedigree on his dam side (Driftwood and Blueboy Quincy lines), and contains a bit of foundation AQHA on his sire's side as well (with his paternal granddam HPH This Chicks Rare going back to horses like Breezy Wyatt and Otoevan himself, as well as some Dash for Cash descendants), but still maintaining that bit more "ranchy" and show type horses of his sire's pedigree. We expect Dawson to be just as versatile as his sire, if not more so, in both the western show pen, as well as Ranch and Extreme Cowboy Racing, and will get all the same additional exposure like the driving/sled pulling, mounted archery, mounted skills at arms, and all the other stuff that his sire gets to see as well to make him a truly versatile and well rounded individual.

He is the perfect combination of his parents and is everything we had hoped for our of that cross. He is very intelligent and takes to new tasks very quickly, already loping in hand with very limited training (no we didn't really train that, he just does it). He is a very friendly, no questions asked type of horse, just like his sire, with that little bit of extra athleticism that Athena offers to the cross. He can stretch that stride like his sire, but naturally, falls into a wonderful little jog and lope like his dam, which is something we have hoped for. Obstacles aren't much of a bother for him either, having already mastered a tetter totter bridge at 2 months old while doing some short halter training sessions while his dam grazed next to the bridge in the arena, and even going up on the bridges at liberty to be closer to his people. We have no doubts (see what we did there with his name) that this colt is going to be something wicked, whether he stays a stallion, or even if he gets gelded in the future. Time will tell. But he has EVERYTHING we look for and MORE, to at least have us "wait and see" how he matures a bit, how his temperament develops more, and how his show career goes before making any specific decisions. And of course, having the blue roan from his dam, so far, there is nothing lacking in this colt for the type of horses we want to be producing.

Though he was a more typical "maiden foal" compared to his paternal half brother Dallas, his current size (at 2 months old) has him about the same height that Dallas was at that same age, so we are expecting him to mature to the larger side, but exactly where he will "finish" is a bit unsure at this time until he matures some more. With his sire being 16.2 hands ( and most of Thunder's pedigree being between 16 hands and 16.2 hands), and Athena being 15 hands (with her pedigree ranging from 14.2 hands to 15.3 hands), its safe to say, Dawson will probably be at least 15.2 hands, if not taller.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page to watch his progress, as well as to see him mature. The goal for Dawson is to be held back for a bit as a member of our show string with Perry at the helm, under the guidance of Dreamscape Horsemanship, and POSSIBLY be a junior stallion prospect for Wolf Hollow Ranch . Dawson is Canadian Colours Futurity eligible, so he will be making his debut in the CCF Weanling Halter class, likely falling into the "Late Colts" class because of his birthdate and continue showing from there, while receiving AGE APPROPRIATE training at home! His show record will be updated as he earns titles! At this time, we plan to hold on to him, BUT, should we decide to geld, he would be made available in the future after some showing!
